Studying in the UK

If you are intending to study in the United Kingdom (UK) you will be required to apply for ‘entry clearance’ under this category. Since September 2007, all students are required to enter the UK with ‘entry clearance’ as a student, except those who are attempting a course of study for less than six months, who then may qualify to apply under the student visitor category. To become a student in the UK, you will be required to have been accepted onto a course of study (minimum 15 hours of study per week) provided by an institution registered with the UKBA as a registered sponsor.

Tier 4: Students under the points based system.

Under the new points based system, those who wish to come to the UK to study will have to satisfy new criteria prior to entering. The stricter rules require that a student must be:

  • Sponsored by a UKBA licensed education institution.
  • Able to prove that they have the means to support themselves and their families while studying here.
  • Able to supply their fingerprints.

Currently the financial requirements by a student who wishes to study in the UK for longer than 12 months - as stated by the UKBA, is that they must have sufficient funds to pay their first year of fees, PLUS £7200 to cover their first year of stay in the UK.

If you would like Visa Direct to assist you in applying for an extension in this visa category in the UK or an out of country application for entry clearance, then please feel free to contact us providing us with a brief outline of your circumstances.
